Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if [there is any] wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 NKJV
In the first eighteen verses of Psalm 139, David praised his God both for knowing him so intimately and for thinking about him so constantly. It’s obvious that David was absolutely basking in God’s love as he wrote this psalm.
Still…David wanted more.
In today’s scripture verses, David welcomed God to know him even better as he asked Him to “search me,” “know my heart,” “try me and know my anxieties,” and “see if there is any wicked way in me.”
This was David asking the God with whom he shared an intimate, loving relationship to search him and show him any lack of faith or unknown sins. This was a man essentially saying, “Lord, I know You love me, so I’m asking You to help me the man You want me to be.”
Today, God invites you to do the very same thing.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be so secure in Your love for me that I have the courage to boldly ask You to search me and let me know where I may be falling short.
