Hi TJ Users, how are you all doing? Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all. There is something that have been meaning to ask, to hear people's opinion and get the truth. Is it bad to listen to secular songs? One of my friends says that there is a spirit behind everything and listening to secular songs/playing them is bad. So we should only listen to gospel songs. She also feels that inspirational songs are secular songs whereby once it's not gorifing God then it is glorifing the devil. How true is that?

The bible tells us to think on things that are pure, holy, truth, righteous, etc. All music has concept and a meaning behind it. What is the name of the song, who wrote, what were they're intentions of writting it? These are questions that i ask before i choose to hear music.

What I have realized lately, God-based musicians are just as good as secular musicians. Personally I listen to hip hop and my favorite artist were Common, jay-z, Lil Wayne, etc. I did some studying on Holy Hip Hop and found that there are artist out there who are just as good, but every song that they sing, write, produce, glorifies the Lord. Whatever genre you like to listen to, there is someone out there who sounds identical, but they give God glory in all they do.

Music is spiritual and every song that you like is tied to a memory becuase it because part of you. Who are you? You are God's most beautiful masterpiece. i know its not easy to make that transition, but its not impossible.

Are you sinning by listening to secular music? No. Are you strengthening youre spirit by promoting and retaining secular music? No. I put it this way. Who do you promote and represent? I will never listen to anything that God would not be proud of.

But you are not condemned for listening or liking secular music. Just make sure that music does not injure your spirit, or disrupts your salvation to the point where the Word has no effect on you. God Bless and we'll keep you in our prayers....

I disagree with your friend about all secular music being bad, she doesn't know every musicians intentions or feelings when writing a song.

Hi all, thks for replying to my thread. Am really grateful, i wasnt really expecting any reply. But to an extend i still feel most if not all secular songs are bad. Just like my friend said if they are not glorifiying God then they are glorifying the devil. When you listen to secular songs, most people do not really have the time or even think of checking up on the singers history or motives they just sing it. And you can never really know a singer's motives for singng a particular song since you are not in his/ her mind. I saw a clip on Chris Brown's fallen angel. One that really talked about the real meaning of every lyrics he sang. I hope to be able to attach the clip soon. He was actualy exalting the satan, though most people wont know it because he kept using a "she" to talk of the fallen angel. It also talked of the church of the devil and lots and lots of musician that are actually there. Whereby the get their lyrics from satan and sing it.
There is this thing about songs, it kindof has the ability to control you and your thinking slowly and graudually, but it eventually does. So i really dont know, sometimes its hard to select among seclar sngs which love song is genuine and could be suitable to show your love to a loved one, because in reality most of them are polluted. Pls What do you think?

I look at the Christian life like this.

My Salvation is REPENTANCE towards God.

FAITH in The Lord Jesus Christ.

Feeding My soul by Immersing myself in Scripture.

In Scripture God speaks to me---in prayer I speak to God.

Enjoying The Holy Spirit Who dwell within EVERY Child of God.

RENEWING of our MIND will change Every intrest we have.

Go on with The Lord & leave this sad old world with its music.

(look at some of the performers --many even have the bodys tatooed with satanic emblems etc.)

Thks everyone for your comments, truly apprreciate. I pray the Lord Almighty shows us daily how we should live how lives for Him. stay blessed ppl

I think it is all in the message the artist is trying to convey with the lyrics..You should only put into your body, what you want into your life, namely, Contemporary Christian music, b/c the music glorifies God and sings about scripture. I think most secular artists are good, but don't have the right messages.. even though a rare few actually have good messages. This reminds me of a song I listened to when I was little, Input/Output-What goes in is what comes out.

I have had the same problem for a while
and honestly thought of doing an entire switch over, because as I once
discussed with my friend there is enough (good) Christian music to go around.

With secular music I tend to steer away from anything too exciting,
anything too obvious. I listen to simple, positive honest music that encourages the heart and is beautifully sung.

I also listen to a limited number of artists giving me the ability
to research on what they are doing, reading through lyrics as I listen to songs and trying to find out completely if this song is right for me to listen to.

I believe if you listen to secular music, you should know exactly why you are listening to it, know about the artists your listening to and have the certainty that their music in no way will be displeasing to God.

Remain blessed...Chinedu x
