Let the meeting of the Seven Deadly Sins commence!” announced Pride.* “Roll call!”

“Lust!”

“Here,” responded a slinky seductress wearing a tight scarlet dress.

“Gluttony!”

“I’m here, but can we get some food now?” asked an obese giant.

“Sloth!…Sloth where are you?”

“Sorry, sorry, I forgot to respond,” stated a sleepy slacker dressed in baggy jeans and a dirty shirt.

“Greed!”

“That’s my chair!” shouted a richly dressed man as he grabbed a chair.

“Wrath!”

“I’m here! You don’t have to shout! I’ll punch you if you make me mad!” retorted a a thuggish-looking man.

“Envy!”

“Why do you get to be moderator?* I want to be moderator!” whined a man dressed in all green.

“Sorry, but I’m the best at doing this,” replied Pride smugly, “And of course, Pride is here.”

As Pride was going to start the meeting, a nerdy-looking accountant wearing a starched shirt and black tie and holding a briefcase runs in to the room.

“Excuse me, is this the meeting for the deadly sins?” the accountant asked.* “Sorry, I am late.”

“Why, yes it is, but who are you?” asked Pride.

“Yeah, you don’t seem so deadly to me!” yelled out Wrath.

The accountant smiled.* “My name is Tax Evasion.* I believe I am deadly.* People try all these tricks to avoid paying their taxes, because deep down they don’t have enough faith that God will provide for them.”

The Deadly Sins talk amongst each other, clearly impressed.* “Welcome to the club and take a seat,” smiled Pride.

All sins are deadly in the eyes of God.* Paul the Apostle wrote in the book of Romans that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”* We should not delude ourselves in thinking that we are righteous before God because we do not commit the larger, more abominable sins, while excusing the “small” sins we commit as being minor and of no importance.* We must repent of all sins, large and small, and ask the Holy Spirit to come into our hearts and help us to be more like our Savior Jesus Christ!
