Show Your Love - September 02, 2006

Ever since my brother died unexpectedly last summer, I am more keenly aware of how, in the blink of an eye, a loved one can suddenly leave us. In hindsight, I wish I could turn back the hands of time and do and say so much more with him, but death is not so accommodating. While in some situations we have the opportunity to prepare for someone's parting, such as an elderly relative who is in critical condition in the hospital, more often than not, death comes when we least expect it. The end result is often grief tinged with regret. "If only she could have known how much I loved her," sobs one mother whose teenaged daughter died of a drug overdose. "I feel bad because I kept putting off spending time with him," says a young man whose father suddenly passed away of a heart attack.

The time to show those you care about that you love them is when they are alive, not when they are dead and gone.

Many of us are far too guilty of allowing petty frictions get in the way of what is truly important, and before you know it, time has passed, calls are missed, and visits are canceled.

My dear friends, not only is today a wonderful day to let our loved ones know they are appreciated, but it is also a perfect time to create a stronger bond with your heavenly Father. Just as you can set aside those small differences of opinion that may strain your earthly relationships, so too can we make the decision to release sin from our lives, and cleave to those things which are good and pleasing to God.

Do you love God?

Then show Him!

Good encouragement, and the key is to focus on your relationship with Father and let Him fill you with love for others. Although we may say and even act like we spend sufficient time with Father, truthfully we do not and it shows. Jesus said that the world can identify His disciples because they really love others.

I'm a mechanic, my wife has surprised people many times with her knowledge of mechanical things and she tells them "my husband is a mechanic". Well, God is love and it is as simple as John said it was, if you spend enough time with God you will love others and if you don't then you won't. Love is a fruit of our intimacy with the Godhead not religious works or liturgy and this is where many, many people are deceived. The gathering or "going to church" as many call it is not quality time with Father it is fellowship with others and it is sad but true that in the religious institution that there is more importance put on the gathering together than the time alone with Father. In a way you might say we have it backwards. Our love for God is a result of fellowship with others when it should be that our love for others is a result of our fellowship with God.

Let's get the vertical working right and then the horizontal will happen. Holy Spirit we need your help, restore the intimacy in our relationship with Father.

Yes, love is paramount, absolutely supreme, the essence of our following the Master.

God Bless You brothers, and I pray He help us to 'abide in His love'
