the Salvation Army use songs of fellowship and also have their own books which have a lot of long old hymns and songs in it. So many I do not know.

God bless  :rainbow: :rose:

Hello 1989

What kind of book do you use to sing songs in church?

I noticed that you posted this in the polls section so I have added a poll for you too.

God bless :rose: :rainbow:

My church used power-point. I'm not sure where they get the song. Some of the songs however are written by the musicians!

Blessings,
monkeys

The church we attend doesn't use an overhead projector persay...its a modernized version of that I suppose!!!:shade:

We use overhead projector but there are song books for those unable to see it. We use Salvation Army books as well as songs of fellowship

God bless

My church uses Power Point computer presentations displayed on screens above the stage.

We also use power point but we have hymnals they put those words up as well. Several scriptures are put up on powerpoint during the message and this is good for those that dont have a bible or forgot it, but I think it makes us lazy on looking it up ourselves and checking out what we are being taught -oops sorry I got off topic.

There's a big fuss in some churchs between the different age groups about the songs ,weather it's hymns or whatever.
If people are set on hymns than they should go to a church that uses them.
Hymns in my opinion for the most part have had their day.
God wants to sing a new song.
At times we may sing out just a love song that the Lord will put on our mind.

I don't think the hymns should be discarded. They still speak to us today if we're
willing to break out of our box and listen. Like Ronda, we use hymnbooks and
powerpoint presentations. I like the blend: we allow the old hymns to still speak to
us, but we also open our hearts for a new song the Lord may be wanting us to learn.

I agree that the old hymns should not be discarded. However, more contemporary arrangements of the music for these hymns will often pour new life into worship.

I'm seventy-years old. The worship band at my church is made up almost wholly of musicians and singers that are under forty years of age. They use an up-tempo arrangement of "Amazing Grace" that draws the whole congregation into intense worship; worship that turns me into a puddle of tears virtually every time.

But the same song has much less effect if I hear it sung in the old way. Sung the old way, it's as ho-hum as listening to Guy Lombardo on New Years' Eve.

I guess the question would be: is song style important, or is it a simple matter of personal taste?

I think that churches that don't grow are churches that are not willing to do things differently when cultural change warrants change in the church. If a church's attendance is declining despite the population numbers in its area holding steady or showing growth, something is wrong and needs to be addressed pronto.

It is not only possible, but imperative in my opinion, that churches change the church experience without watering down the gospel message. Just as bees do not go where there is no pollen, spiritual seekers do not go where there is nothing that resonates with them.

We have a bit of a buffet. We have the standard hymnal, a Heavenly Highways which is Stamps-Baxter type music and we do the overhead praise songs.

Yes, same here in my church. But if electric power cut-off, the worship leader would lead us to sing familiar hyms which everyone can sing in one accord.

Our church does modern praise and worship songs, but sometimes we sing Amazing Grace at the end; the couple of times we have, man...talk about a surging of emotions.

But sometimes, electricity blacks out. So, the worship leader would lead us familiar hyms which all of us can sing together in one accord!

What kind of book do you use to sing songs in church?

We sing praise and worship songs at Church. Some times we sing hymns. Most of the songs we sing are:

1) Hillsongs
2) Don Moen.

God bless you.
