"Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37 NKJV
It’s human nature to judge others. Fear drives this instinct to protect ourselves. We tell ourselves that others will always choose what’s best for them over what’s best for us, so we must do the same. But that only works if God isn’t in the picture. If we believe we are left to our own devices, that God is too busy or disinterested to get involved, then self-preservation makes sense.
But the Bible tells us that God cares deeply about us. He is Lord of all, but He also gets down in the weeds of life with us. The least self-preservational act in history was Jesus becoming human—God saying, “Though I need nothing, I love you enough to die for you.” Because He cares, He wants us to care too.
When we resist judging others, we are recalling our debt to the one who alone can judge righteously but instead chose to save us. We’re trusting He will continue to preserve us and shape us into people who live in the rhythms of grace and seek what’s best for others.
Prayer: God, Your grace fuels me to love like You do. I trust that You will preserve and protect me, so I can focus on living out Your kingdom values.
