O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. Romans 7:24-25 NKJV
We all have moments, even as longtime believers in Christ, where our thoughts, words, or actions shock us. We can’t believe what goes through our minds, what just comes out of our mouths, what we just did. And then, when the Spirit convicts us, our conscience and the devil dogpile on—You call yourself a Christian? Jesus must be shaking His head.
The good news is God is unshockable. He knows what a mess sin has made of our hearts and how it continues to battle for supremacy through our flesh. But that didn’t stop Him from dying to save us, from serving notice on death and sin that, under the banner of His love, their hold is fleeting at best.
It sounds weird, but in a way, Jesus’ blood has made you too slippery for sin to grip. Sin can trouble you, especially in unguarded moments, but it can’t hold you anymore. Confess your dark moments and thoughts to Jesus, but then thank Him that you are His and nothing can separate the two of you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for setting things right, for sticking with me through all my ups and downs. You won’t quit on me till Your work in me is finished.
