Slow Down and Reflect to Repent

[Why has this people slidden back, Jerusalem, in a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit, They refuse to return. I listened and heard, [But] they do not speak aright. No man repented of his wickedness, Saying, 'What have I done?' Everyone turned to his own course, As the horse rushes into the battle. Jeremiah 8:5-6 NKJV

Consider what it could look like to slow down in your life. Moving faster from one thing to another doesn’t leave space for reflection. When the people of Jerusalem pursued their own way, they charged into it without reservation. A life that just moves from one thing to another is a life that is destined to run off course.

How can you slow down your life today? You may not feel like a horse charging into battle, but everyone surely needs a bit of time to think about the course of their lives, their priorities, and how God could bring change.

If you can slow down for even a brief moment, you may find that God is willing to forgive you and that your life could improve significantly as you pursue a new direction. You may feel a sense of loss as you leave behind some of your own priorities and desires, but what you receive back from God will be far greater.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to slow down and to return to You in repentance.
