Imagine being a young boy excited about the possibility of seeing Jesus. You’d heard the stories, and it was easy to believe that Jesus was someone worth knowing. But when you got close enough to Him, to hear His voice, and touch His hand, the disciples scolded you, making you feel as if you’d done something wrong. In that moment, you felt the full weight of dejection. With hot tears threatening your eyes, you considered kicking rocks all the way home. But Jesus said something that made you believe that He actually cared about you. He didn’t say the words to you, but to the men who scolded you. He wanted you to come close so you could hear Him. He wanted to see you.
This is a picture of the way every man should feel, knowing that Jesus wants you to come close, stay close, and learn from Him. You’re not sent away. You aren’t scolded for wanting to know more. He doesn’t want anyone else stopping you from find Him. This is the place where joy is discovered, curiosity is explore, and the gift of love is received.
Prayer: Lord, I don’t have to hesitate for a moment when I want to come to You. Guide my heart to the place where you tell others, “Don’t stop him!”
