A friend of yours comes up to you after the church service and
they look very anxious and nervous. They tell you they have
sinned and want you to be the person they are accountable to.
Whether the sin is pornography or abortion, or lying to
their parents or spouse, they want to come to you for guidance,
and help.

How do you react if this happened to you? See poll above ^

I didn't use the poll because if I don't know them that well or even if I do, I should probably pray first and that wasn't one of the options.

I would probably be taken aback but then would tell them I needed to pray about it and then if God directed me would accept and help the person as best I could through and with our Lord Jesus.

We have all fallen short and sinned Jesus was there to help and save us...shouldn't we be there if one of His sheep falls to help pick them up again and guide them with the help of our Lord and His written word?

Was there a recent sermon/teaching on accountability?---It being one of your friends makes the decision a little easier---You should still get a little counsel and advice from the elders at the church mentioned, so if it gets dicey you have someone to turn to---I'd encourage you to do it and explain you can only council them and pray with them for Jesus to give them the victory---If it starts to get to be a clingy sort of thing that is pulling you down, that's when you will need council yourself----But hey yeah, by all means use your gifts and talents to help rescue others---You'll find it very fulfilling.

No one has asked me that sort of question happy, it
was just a poll question I happened to be think of. :)
This situation doesn't happen a lot to many people,
so I thought it might get some wheels turning ^-^

Believing such an event to be what I call a "Divine Appointment", I voted "Accept and guide them". I would depend on God to be my guide, as I've done many times in the past. He's a lot smarter than I am.

Repentance is a good thing and we should always be available to help a brother/sister in need.

Gal 6:1-2 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. (2) Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
