Speaking the Truth

[To Christ]

Have you ever stopped to notice in how many things you exagerrate or change tiny details, so things look worse or better than they are? For example, someone commits the same offence against you three times; you say it was four. Three times you forget an appointment you promised someone; you say it was two. You know you are 5' 7" tall, and say you are 5' 8". You have a B+ average in a class, and say it is an A.

This is something that is part of human nature, yet with a God Who cannot lie, it is an often unnoticed barrier to coming closer to Him and sensing the constancy of His love. Over the past two years, I have found what a difference it makes to keep a Jesus-monitored accurate account of my thoughts, and to speak accordingly. This is part of what is the exhortation to take our thoughts captive,
2 Corinthians 10:4-6:

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Once it becomes a habit to stay accurate for truth in our minds and the subsequent greater honesty in speech, there is a new dimension to obedience. Then when we trangress, conviction is immediate, we punish the disobedience, straight-away asking for forgiveness in Jesus. While not claiming to have this down completely, I have become crazy about these verses for the way they show themselves to be a tool that gets the results I have long wanted in my walk with the Lord!
