Spiritual Growth? (Part one)

Spiritual growth as a Christian is very similar to physical growth. Infants do not know how to control their hands and feet. They are constantly flaying their limbs. Their eyes can not see correctly. They have not yet learned how to control their eyes to see things far away or close. They know very little about the world they have been brought into. This is how a newborn believer is after coming to Jesus Christ as their savior.

I remember the day I came to Jesus. It was very traumatic in that I immediately began to “sense” things I never knew existed. I had no idea what it was or where it came from. After walking out of the front door of the Church I was at, I looked up to the skies and became amazed at the beauty of the skies, and clouds. It was like, I was seeing things from a different light, and different senses than before. The sky had not changed, I had changed. Everybody I met who was much older in the Lord could not explain to me what I was experiencing except that I was given a new heart. It was not until a few years later the Lord began to teach me what it was that I sensed in me

The Apostle Paul quotes a passage from the Old Testament, in which Jesus also quoted in his ministry.

Act 28:27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and THEIR EARS ARE DULL OF HEARING, AND THEIR EYES HAVE THEY CLOSED; LEST THEY SHOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, AND HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Every person Jesus spoke to had ears and eyes except for a few blind, and deaf people which he healed. They all saw and heard the Words he spoke. But Jesus was not referring to their “physical” ears and eyes, but the eyes of their heart which had become hardened because of sin.

The Lord God created this physical world, and man in such a way that it resembles the spiritual world. Roman's chapter one verse twenty tells us, “ For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are CLEARLY SEEN, BEING UNDERSTOOD BY THE THINGS THAT ARE MADE, even his eternal power and Godhead...”

You talk about one huge “VISUAL AID”. I am “visual” learner, and God is a “visual” teacher!!!

We can see and understand “INVISIBLE THINGS” by looking at the physical things made by God.
Even man's spirit within him can be understood by looking at the outward physical man!! Paul tells us we have an outward man, and we have an inward man also known as the “hidden man of the heart”. (2 Cor 4:16)

The physical man has five “SENSES” which connect to his physical brain. These five senses allow man to operate in this physical world. Man can see, feel, hear, taste, and touch the world in which he lives. In exactly the same way, the spiritual or the inward man, which was born again of the incorruptible seed of the Word of God has the exact same “senses”, except they allow man to live in the spiritual world were God lives!!

These senses became, we could say “activated” at the new birth. If we are never taught that we have these senses, we will never experience them in our Christian walk. They are absolutely essential for the Church to become mature. The Apostle Paul speaking to a group of Christians said this......

Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have NEED OF MILK, and not of strong meat.
Heb 5:13 For everyone that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14 But STRONG MEAT BELONGETH TO THEM THAT ARE OF FULL AGE, EVEN THOSE WHO BY REASON OF USE HAVE THEIR SENSES EXERCISED TO DISCERN BOTH GOOD AND EVIL.

Verse 14, strong meat only belongeth to them that are of full age (mature), even those who by reason of use have their SENSES EXERCISED to discern both good and evil.

How can we exercise something we do not know we have? We can not. How will the Church ever become “mature” without first knowing and using these senses? It won't! There is no way we can do these things which the Bible tells us to do without first knowing we have these senses and begin to exercise them to their fullest.

Psa 34:8 O TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

1Ti 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, LAY HOLD ON ETERNAL LIFE, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Heb 2:9 BUT WE SEE JESUS, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, CROWNED WITH GLORY AND HONOUR; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

John 10:27 MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE, and I know them, and they follow me:

1Jn 5:10 HE THAT BELIEVETH ON THE SON OF GOD HATH THE WITNESS IN HIMSELF: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

Even as an infant through time eventually learns to control its limbs and senses to where it is able to walk and talk, to operate within the world it lives, even so every Christian must do the same or it will stay drinking the pure milk of the Word, and never come to maturity.
