If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2
To set your mind on things above is to make spiritual things your primary focus. If your main goal, however, is to have a well-paying job, a luxurious home, wonderful vacations, and plenty of retirement money, then those are the things you'll spend years pursuing. Mind you, it's no sin to have those things. But you should have the attitude where, if God removed those things from your life, you'd still be satisfied. Would you be?
Jesus commanded, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven….For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV).
God knows you need "daily bread" to survive, which is why He told you to pray for it (Matthew 6:11). But later in the same chapter, He explains that you are to "seek the Kingdom of God above all else…and he will give you everything you need" (Matthew 6:33 NLT).
Prayer: Lord, as the old hymn says, "This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through." Help me to seek You and heaven and my treasures there, above all.
