Yes, the battle belongs to the Lord, and he already won the battle for us. We just have to live like we believe this is true, i.e. like we believe he truly defeated Satan and sin on our behalf, and that sin no longer has mastery over us, and trials don't have to defeat us, because he is sovereign over all things. For instance, I was abused as a child by my father. I used to resist his attacks by crossing my arms over my face, but that left holes where his arms and hands could still get through, for that only covered a small part of my body. I resisted him, too, not with the confidence that he had no power over me, but that I knew I was going to get hit. It was just a matter of where and how badly.
So, I carried that over to my battle against sin and Satan. I dealt with Satan's attacks against me and with the temptations to sin sometimes like a defeated and fearful child just waiting to get hit again. So, I had to learn how to put on the spiritual armor which God supplied all of us with in order to fight off Satan's evil attacks against us. Instead of cowering in a corner with arms across my face, I learned to use the sword of the Spirit, and the belt of truth, and the breastplate of righteousness and shoes for my feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace, as offensive weapons against my enemy. I learned to set my face like flint with regard to sin and its temptations, and with regard to Satan's evil attacks against me, and I claimed the victory that is mine in Christ Jesus, and the fact that greater is he who is in me than he that is in the world, and that we are more than conquerors through him who loves us and who gave his life up for us.
Satan has convinced so many Christians that there is a question as to who is going to win, and that he still has power over them, and that somehow they are too weak and are unable to resist him, and so they give in and give up the fight. But, we have to believe the truth and not the lies, and we have to be convinced that Jesus truly did conquer Satan and sin, and he already won, so all we have to do is trust him, rest in him, follow him in obedience, and daily put on that spiritual armor, and allow the Spirit of God to empower and strengthen us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions and desires, and to instead live self-controlled, upright and godly lives while we wait for Christ's return (Tit. 2:11-14), all in the working, power and strength of the Spirit of God within us as we yield control of our lives over to him and cooperate with his work of grace and heart transformation.
