Survival of the Grittiest

Someone emailed me an idea for the next "Survivor" show: "Six men will be dropped on an island with one van and four kids each, for six weeks. Each kid plays two sports and either takes music or dance classes. There is no access to fast food. Each man must take care of his four kids, keep his assigned house clean, correct all homework, complete science projects, cook, do laundry, etc. The men only have access to television when the kids are asleep and all chores are done. There is only one TV among each family and there is no remote.

"The men must shave their legs and wear makeup daily, which they must apply themselves either while driving or while making four lunches. They must attend weekly PTA meetings, clean up after their sick children at 3:00 a.m., make an Indian hut model with six toothpicks, a tortilla and one marker, and get a four-year-old to eat a serving of peas. The kids vote them off based on performance. The winner gets to go back to his job." (Author Unknown)

It can take some real grit to survive parenthood. Where can we find the strength to survive the most marvelous, difficult, rewarding, challenging, agonizing, enriching, amazing job we've ever had?
Ephesians 3:16-19 gives us the answer: "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledgethat you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."

Strength/grit comes from His glorious riches. It comes from the power our Heavenly Father gives through His Spirit who lives in us. The Holy Spirit dwells in us because of the love and provision of God. That really does cause us to be "rooted and established."

His love is so immense! We can do more than merely survive. In the immense love of God, we can THRIVE! Even if the four-year-old never eats the peas.

Great thought for survivor, Chad...Families do thrive with GOD'S help. HE is our source of strength and energy when it seems there is no more. HIS love, grace, and mercy are abundant for our needs...they have NEVER failed. It does and has taken grit, but with the grit there has always been a seasoning of GOD'S grace.

Good post Chad, Good idea too but I doudt you can find 6 willing contestants. LOL ( I know I won't be signing up)

The Double Standard

The LORD despises double standards of every kind.” Proverbs 20:10 NLT

“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”

Although the playing field of life continues to become more level, we are still a world of double standards.

There is still a double standard in wages and positions between men and women, between the white majority and ethnic minorities. There is the double standard between the world and God.

The world says take all you can get - God says share all you have been given. The world says the one with the most toys wins - God says the one with the most faith wins. The world says it’s all about you, God says it’s all about Him.

Double standards often lead to double mindedness. As we coexist

in our corruptible flesh with our incorruptible spirit, we often allow the the flesh to bring out the worst in us, instead of letting the power of the Holy Spirit bring out God’s best in us.

There are many even within churches who are trying to lower God’s standards in the name of love and inclusion.

Although our God is an equal opportunity God, He does have a double standard between believers and unbelievers.

“If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace.”

Romans 8:6 NLT



To those who believe that they are sinners whose sins have been forgiven and that they have received a new birth and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ, God gives the keys to His kingdom for now and forever.

To those who reject God’s call to salvation and insist on wandering aimlessly lost in a life of unbelief, God gives a one way ticket to a kingdom of darkness and the eternal torment of hell.

May we all cut through the double talk and double standards of the world and believe that Jesus is the only way, truth, and life.

Father, may I never compromise your standards by buying into the standards of the World. Amen
