I need ideas for my step-daughter's 16th (as she refers to it, her sweet 16) birthday. It is EXTRA special to her because her birthday is on the 16th day, so she finds extra meaning to it. She asked her Mom for permission to ask me if it would be ok to hug on her birthday. So, I am saying that to illustrate that our relationship is growing and in my opinion, to the point where there is no difference between her and my bio kids, in order for you to make perhaps slightly different suggestions based on that. Any takers?!

16.....nearly an adult but still a child. It can be quite an awkward age!
I have a 16 year old daughter!

Not knowing what your step daughter likes.....here are a few general idea's.

A few little wrapped up presents.....a mixture of silly funny and endearing. To satisfy the "child" side of 16

A gift card for clothing or music (or whatever she is most into) to allow her choice and independence.

A book by a favorite author with a message from you written at the front.

A family meal out or an activity including a few close friends.

And most of all.....let her know she is loved and precious to Jesus and yourselves as parents

Praying that your dear step daughter may choose the Lord and not the world as she steps closer to adulthood.

My three eldest daughters are "step daughters" One thing I did right from the beginning was to let my daughters know that they were my daughters. Period. I never stepped any of them. They were and are my daughters...even though I was never able to adopt them (other daddy you know). My blood daughter is no more my daughter than the other three and there is no jealousy there. Love your daughter and your other kids equally. I fail to see a problem with hugging your child. Permission? Well, one would need the child's permission, in that if the child does not like hugs....What other problems?

Yes I do love her the same! It is only right and the only way I can truly love my wife. There are things that happened in their life that I do not know about and they haven't shared with me. I don't poke or prod about it. It was very bad is all I know - so we are a family of healing people, thanks to Jesus. So it's just a learning curve at this point.

Oh Yeah...You love the woman and you just can't help but love her kids! They are every bit as wonderful as their mother. Keep working to love them more....Like Jesus.
