“Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am being tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.” (James 1:13-18 NASB1995)

If any of us gives in to the temptation to sin, it is not God’s fault. It is our fault for yielding to the temptation and for sinning against God. And even if we are being led into sin by other humans, in their cunning and craftiness and deceitful scheming, although they are also at fault (Matthew 18:6-7), we still bear the responsibility for our own sins. For we are the ones who made the wrong choices and who chose the lusts of the flesh over God.

Now Jesus Christ gave his life up for us on that cross to deliver us out of bondage (slavery, addiction) to sin so that we will now serve the Lord in walks of obedience to his commands in holy living. This is God’s plan and purpose for our lives, that we would honor and obey him, and that we will no longer live in deliberate and habitual sin. Yet, it is possible that we might sin at some time (1 John 2:1-2), but sin should not be our practice.

Now there are many people teaching today that we can believe in Jesus Christ, have all our sins forgiven, and be guaranteed heaven when we die, but that we can continue in deliberate and habitual sin against God, and against other humans, and that it will not count against us. And some are teaching, as well, that we are not required to obey God and his New Covenant commandments since we are under grace and not “The Law.”

But we don’t become lawless just because we are not under the Old Covenant Mosaic law. We must still obey God and his New Covenant commands, and we must still die with him to sin and now walk with him in holy living, or we do not have salvation from sin, and we will not have eternal life with God. Heaven is not guaranteed us based upon lip service only (see Matthew 7:21-23; cf. Luke 9:23-26; Galatians 5:16-21).

The grace of God, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for Jesus’ return. For Christ “gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (See Titus 2:11-14; Ephesians 2:8-10)

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
