John 2:13-17
13*It was time for the annual Passover celebration, and Jesus went to Jerusalem. 14*In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; and he saw money changers behind their counters. 15*Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and oxen, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables. 16*Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, “Get these things out of here. Don’t turn my Father’s house into a marketplace!”
17*Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house burns within me.”*
Mark 11:15-18
15*When they arrived back in Jerusalem, Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the merchants and their customers. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the stalls of those selling doves, 16*and he stopped everyone from bringing in merchandise. 17*He taught them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a place of prayer for all nations,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”*
18*When the leading priests and teachers of religious law heard what Jesus had done, they began planning how to kill him.
Doesn't seem any different today, religion is big business. What ever happened to freely you have received so freely give? Some of the career ministers today make excessive amounts of money by the pretense of propigating the gospel. They sell their books, tapes and teachings, they charge $ for seminars and coerce people into giving to their ministries. Many of them live extavigant lifestyles, and all in the name of Jesus and the Gospel. Many may think it is ok but the truth is it angers Jesus. It is not right or proper and is definetly NOT Christ-like. I call it for what it is. EXTORTION!
This is not what pleases God and when I step back and look at what claims to be the church or house of God, I think it looks more like a modern day department store, peddling all of it's goods to whoever has money to purchase it. Many of these so called "ministers" may have started off in serving Christ in a right manner but somewhere along the way they gave in to worldly temptation. Christ made himself of no reputation and yet many who claim that they are following Him are trying to be Famous. This path does NOT lead to Christ, It leads away from Him. There is treasure to be found in Christ Jesus but you can not buy it with worldy goods or money. We must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus and if we are following Him, what angers Him will anger us!
