It has been brought up numerous times here on TalkJesus, about what happens immediately after you die.

Some say you "sleep" in the ground until the resurrection on "the last day", and others say you immediately go to be with Jesus.
But what about the unsaved? What happens to them? Well, yes eventually they get resurrected too, and they go to Hell and eventually the Lake of Fire.

But where do they go... until that day... until the judgment happens. There are some verses that say the unsaved will be resurrected "a thousand years" after
the saved Christians. Well obviously, they aren't in heaven with Jesus... or are they?

If you believe your spirit goes immediately to heaven when you die. Where does the spirit of the unsaved go?

Eccl 12:7; then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Depending on how you interpret verses like this one, it seems everyone's spirit returns to God, at least for a while. Until the first and second resurrections.

Rev 20:4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Rev 20:5; This is the first resurrection. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed.
Rev 20:6; Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.

Imo the spirit returns to God.. but the spirit of the unbelievers goes to the place Jesus speaks of in luke 16 rich man vs Lazarus.

So when revelation says the rest of the dead did not come to life, i dont think we need to interpret that to mean the spirits of the dead are also dead thus outside of time or suspended in a state of unconsciousness.

I tend to believe the dead will die again and cease to exist, each persons specific experience unique to their judgement.
