Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 NKJV

Bad things can happen to a man who loses heart. It makes him cynical toward others, apathetic, or even angry with those closest to him. It will often lead him to compound the situation by making choices that fall into the bad category.

The bold, persistent, gentle encouragement to someone who seems to have lost heart is found in today’s scripture verse: “Reconsider your lives” and “change your direction.”

You can’t force those who have lost heart to take a different direction, but you can suggest that choice in a way that shows real love. You can be an example to follow. You can be a friend who walks with them past the bullseye of discouragement on the way to the better target.

Too many people today are willing to “cancel” others because they don’t conform to their way of thinking. Christians should be known for something different. The forgiveness you offer and the direction you identify for others to consider is an act of love. Don’t write people off as if they have no hope and no future. Give them a reason to seek something better. Give them a reason to take heart.

Prayer: I think of You as my best example, Lord. That’s the right choice. But help me take the responsibility seriously to follow Your example so others can glimpse Your grace in my actions.
