The Bible is wrong?

Hi. I grew up atheist and am now more of an agnostic. I’ve read the Bible and while it does have some nice things,it’s mostly a pretty bad book teaching all the wrong stuff... How can any moral person believe in such evil literature? Thank you

Some nice morality there, yes, but not all of it. That’s what I’m saying. If you carefully cut and paste, you might come up with something decent out of the Bible. In its entirety, it’s a very dark book

The sermon on the mount is the clearest summary of biblical morality and ethics. It's a condensation of all old testament teaching and the foundation of the new testament. It ought to be a good place to examine the whole of the Bibles teaching. What do you find objectionable?

We also see the good, bad and ugly of people like 'we' were back in the beginning and that we haven't changed much.

God's Word Is God's Word to everyone. We find out we have a Creator -- where we came From, how we got here and that we all have either heaven or hell in our eternal future. That God has provided a way of salvation From eternity in hell and for an eternity in heaven. That Jesus Christ is God's Son who came into this world to show us to His Father in heaven and more importantly to die on the cross for our sins, was buried and rose again bodily For Us. The shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross is all that's necessary for our salvation. No good works on our part is needed.

A Lot of people don't like a 'bloody' religion. And some believe that Jesus Christ was simply a good religious teacher of that day and nothing else.

So, what do you find objectionable.

A randomly selected anthology of ancient Jewish religious texts. Contradictory. Immoral theology. Primitive, erroneous picture of reality. Idealistic communism of Jesus that turns his attempted followers into champion hypocrites. Flip-flopping morality. Etc.

Maybe part of your problem is 'randomly selected anthology of ancient Jewish religious texts. In That case -- you probably Will find contradiction , etc , etc, etc.

We human beings are very capable of coming up with exactly that.

When a person's actions don't agree with what we say -- the result Can be hypocritical.

God's Word is God's Word -- 'we' see human nature as it really is. And it's Not pretty. And That is why we Need a Savior. Society has a tendency to want to do things 'my way'. Instead of God's way.

God gave us those 'horrific' Old Testament laws for a Reason. To enable the people to be healthier instead of living like the other nations around them.

Way back in the beginning -- Adam and Eve were told to Not eat the fruit or even to touch the tree of the knowledge of both good and evil. They couldn't obey even one thing. They ate that fruit and brought on the knowledge of Evil. As well as good. But we - as human beings -- have proved the horrendously horrible ways we are capable of treating other people. It's Not pretty. And That is why we Need a Savior. The Savior to change our Inner person to be a Better person.

That change is seen in people who Have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

Nice sermon, thank you. Passionate. I enjoyed it. I’m serious. Trying to beat guilt into me. Not gonna happen. And homosexuals are to be killed, too btw. Those dirty perverts, right? Let’s kill them all, for the Bible tells us so.

I was given a Strobel’s book once. Pathetic. The arguments are either false or weak

When God speaks to you, then you become a knower of what and who the truth is. Not a believer any more following blindly along to some written word or pastors sermon. For now you know who wrote this particular book. When he says you go here or there and say this or that, you do, and what he told you to say comes to reality you know in whom you trust.
Indeed God did have the Israelites do many things that could be found offensive in todays world simply because they understand not the things of God. But as God has the power to raise all up from the dead what is it to him to kill?

Most of what happened in Old Testament times was physical to show a spiritual action to come.

Examples would be Hebrews in bondage to Pharoah, symbolic of Humans in bondage to sin. Hebrews coming through the RED sea- symbolic of the chosen people washed by the BLOOD of Jesus. Israelites destroying Cannanite peoples in the land God had promised them- symbolic of each persons eradication of all things considered evil from
within themselves.

The reality of the Bible is quite simple. God wanted children and he is having them. Their need. including you, is a knowledge of both good and evil which you have now. But the one thing you lack is having life within yourself that cannot be taken from you as it can now. When that has been accomplished by God drawing you to see what he did for you through his Son (obtaining that life and freely giving it) you will readily give up evil and chase after that LIFE as it will become more precious that anything this life has to offer.
In the end ALL men will come to this end point as the spirit that resides in them now comes from within God and he has every intention of bringing all of his children to glory
that they will glorify him. You included.

In response to your opening statement: we who are the people of God are commanded to shun evil and do good, and to cause no harm to come to any man.
The rules of the Old testament Law do not apply to us in this day. So take a good look around at those who CLAIM to be Gods people and if they do not fit this category
then they lie. There is more of this than the true children and it has a purpose as well. Someday he will show you, as you are one of his children as well, only question is when?

And still He sacrificed Himself for you, so that you mustn't get the punishment applied in the Old Testament. Yes, a horrible punishment applied in the OT, but also a horrible sacrifice and punishment applied on Jesus. He took it for us and we enter into this promise if we believe. Don't worry most of us or at least I struggled with believing and understanding, but the Lord can come and help us through. We do half and He can do the other half or much more if we trust. I like the example given in the New testament with someone who said: " Lord I believe; help my unbelief! " Mark 9:24
All of us lack things or faith, but he can come in our help. It is possible.

Well --"Hi-Friends" -- you have come 'here' for a reason. If you're plan it to talk some sense into us and get us to stop reading / believing God's Word -- well-- it's not going to happen. And I genuinely feel sorry for you. You Do have a soul just like the rest of us and it will end up either in heaven or in hell. You Won't like ending up in hell. And chances are that once you get there -- you'll remember all the people who tried to tell you the Truth and you refused to listen. but by then , it will be eternally Too Late.

You have This lifetime to trust God's Word.
