The Bridge to Nowhere - September 26, 2005
"Barricade the road that goes Nowhere, Grace me with you clear revelation. I choose the true road to Somewhere." Psalms 119:31 (The Message)
What an amazing sight to me, the bridge to nowhere, which I saw in the outskirts of Pittsburgh recently. The story goes, when the hurricane of 2004 came through, the bridge was washed from its original foundation. It moved down the way a bit, and landed on a spot where one end just lead into a field. I dubbed it "The bridge to nowhere." It started out somewhere, but ended up leading nowhere.
How life can engulf us like that? We can have a spiritual beginning, with Sunday School, Parochial School, or perhaps through Christian parents or grandparents. Then, boom, a storm of life can push us from our firm foundation, and our spiritual bridge can lead us to nowhere; just to the wilderness, a place with no revelation.
We must ask God to give us strength to choose the true road to "Somewhere", the true road of our Spiritual walk with Him, even when the storms of life try to knock us off course. We must ask for His clear revelation, as the Word says, not allowing things of this world to push us into a barren wasteland.
The Psalmist goes on to say, "teach me your ways, give me understanding and direct me in the path of your commands. Give me a heart of your words of wisdom, and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things, and invigorate me on the pilgrim way." Yes. That is where our bridge should take us, to the road of love and light; God's road for our life!
