"Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: 'Because you have increased in height, and it set its top among the thick boughs, and its heart was lifted up in its height, 'therefore I will deliver it into the hand of the mighty one of the nations, and he shall surely deal with it; I have driven it out for its wickedness. Ezekiel 31:10-11 NKJV
Today’s scripture verse is part of God’s pronouncement of judgment on Egypt for its pride and arrogance. God was about to judge and humble Pharaoh using “the hand of the mighty one of the nations,” meaning Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
The lesson of Ezekiel 31 for us today is this: when we live in humility before God, we put ourselves in a place where He can give us refuge and protection from our spiritual enemies. But when we live in pride, believing we can take care of ourselves without God’s help, the enemy has free rein.
This is why wise King Solomon wrote, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). Strong words indeed!
If you want to live under God’s mighty hand of protection, remember that you can’t defeat your spiritual enemies on your own. Make sure to keep yourself humble and dependent on your mighty heavenly Father.
Prayer: God of Wisdom, forgive me when I think more of myself than I should. Keep me humble by reminding me often that You are my source of protection against my spiritual enemy.
