And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11 CSB
We are not what we used to be, and Jesus is the reason why. In Him, we are new creations—no longer beholden to all the things that separated us from Him. You may have strongly identified with what you once were—but in fact, your sin defined you.
And yet, God pursued you, convicting you of the ways you chose yourself over your Maker. You started to see your need to be forgiven by someone who was perfect and just and good. You saw that God loved you more than you had ever imagined. Something pivoted in your heart, and Jesus became everything to you. What a glorious moment!
Since then, the Holy Spirit has redirected you back to Jesus when you’ve strayed, empowering you to behave as He did, and even giving you the desire to do so. The way you judged yourself and others belongs to a dead past, and you love this new life God has given you. He opens your heart—both to Him and to others.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for freeing me to be the man You want me to be. Help me to extend Your love and grace to those who need You as much as I do.
