The Father’s Heart
Two Children came to the Throne of Grace
One first knelt to be cleansed by My Son
From the mud acquired while on the street
Not wanting to defile My Most Holy Place
The Other One though, in their haste
Rushed straight through in self righteousness
Not seeing the mud drug through the door
They proceeded to enter though still soiled
The One who entered with repentance
Searched for ways to minister to Me
They set aside their wants and desires
Wanting to know the heart of The Father
The Other One with all haughtiness
Threw their requests at My feet
Then through all confidence in their faith
Out they ran to service their ministry
The One, however, was still in communion
In earnest longing for the better portion
They took the time to praise and worship
To sit and know the heart of The Father
The Other One ran hither and yon
Speaking of all the blessings they had won
By casting all cares at the foot of the Throne
While others skeptically looked on
The One who had chosen the better part
Was found pouring out their burdens and cares
For their heart had been thus prepared
While communing with the heart of the Father
The Other One was extremely vexed
As they kept running here and there
Why the One was slow in service of ministry
But still kept reaping the benefits of prayer
The One just smiled and was content
To still be sitting at the Father’s feet
Knowing that this was the better portion
For they knew the heart of the Father
Just as the One was preparing to depart
The other one was back at the start
Urgently coming to inquire of the Father
Why their prayers had not been answered
As time went on in this Other One’s life
He noticed that the Throne of Grace
Was so much more than just a place
To lay down burdens, worries, and strife
Just like the One who had mastered it best
The Other One came to realize that
The way to know the heart of the Father
Comes by the way of repentance and praise.
Two Children are now at the Throne of Grace
Both now earnestly longing for the better part
In communion and quiet humility there is born
The desire to know the heart of the Father
