Jesus said not to resist evil... but what if it is YOU that is the evil?
Say for example that you were born again and feeling connected to Jesus, but somehow evil still had a hold over you. So you might even do something awful, really bad? Is it possible?
Can a person have the conviction they are saved yet be driven by a force that they can't seem to stop, no matter how hard they try or pray? Have you ever seen your life spiral into a living hell and all you can do is watch it happen? Like all you can do is sin or kill yourself?

Asking for a friend.

Hi LostButTrying,
You are obviously lost and you are not trying.
Looking in your post, that what you are thinking is WRONG, it doesn't
mean you have to do what you think.
In the beginning when man took of the tree of good an evil, it was the
knowledge of good and evil, so we all have this knowledge, but we dont
have to do either.
So you are not alone as regards these two positions within our lives.

You are wrong to suggest that God said do not resist evil, on the contrary
The Bible says you must resist evil and it will flee from you.

Without having full knowledge of your position, usually a lot of problems
stem from a happening in your life at sometime of which you should deal
with, either see your doctor, or seek counselling.

You need Jesus fully in you life, to fight off these thoughts, remember they
are only thoughts, but can be as I'm sure you know very powerful.

These thoughts from the devil, tempting you to sin, THEY ARE LIES,
he want you to sin, he wants you locked up, he even wants you dead.
He is the father of lies, I'm sure you know that.

So now I must ask the question, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT
Are going to give in to temptation, or are you going to fight for your sanity.
Come on you can do it, fight the good fight, pray unto God with all
sincerity and He will be there for you.

I pray that God will put His Devine hedge around you.

Until recently I felt distanced from God, but I found inspiration from reading about St. Teresa of Avila, and felt inspired by the Roman Catholic Church. However, I haven't joined that church in a formal way as that takes a long time... But, I am impressed by the idea that in order to be really saved you have to stop sinning too... I'm a bit confused about that though. If I accept Jesus as my saviour then I'm ok, yes? Even with the occasional diabolical atrocity once in a while?
So you saying that it is important to resist evil makes sense. But my brain won't do what I want, there is evil in me and I don't feel like it's a choice. Jesus should be able to keep the evil at bay... what can I do? I am trying,

Hi You do have a choice and occasional sin is wrong.
It's good that when these thoughts come in to your mind, you know
that they are wrong, that's a good start.
It's very important that you don't react to these LIES.
You MUST NOT react to these thoughts.
I wish I could be with you, I obviously can't, so I implore you to talk
to someone close to you, or a pastor maybe, you must seek help
local to you.
My heart goes out to you mate, you know I care about your welfare

I pray Lord help my friend in his hour of need, suppress these evil thoughts
within his mind, he knows they are wrong Lord, but he needs Your
Devine intervention NOW, in Jesus name I ask Amen.

No one has to stop sinning in order to be saved. We are to come to God -- through Jesus Christ -- just as we are. Otherwise it's good works that we're trying to do to attain our salvation.

Do you really feel the urge to commit some kind of atrocity once in a while? Like What, for instance? Everyone is born with a tendency towards sinning. And no one will attain any level of perfection while we're still alive in this world.

What do you allow yourself to be thinking about? What do you read or watch on TV or the movies. Or the video games that you might watch. Look at Phillipians 4: 6-8.
