The Four Horsemen - Message #390 - December 25, 2005

We live in amazing times. History is unfolding around us. In some ways we seem to be at the mercy of forces beyond our control. Wars break out unexpectedly. Famine and starvation often follow in their wake. Death is not far behind. All of this is out of our control. The Bible indicates this is the case.
The Bible presents four awesome horsemen riding through history. One is red. He is war. Another is black. He is famine. Another is ashen. He carries a deathly pallor. Hades is His footman running along side. These horsemen are loosed by Christ, who opens the perfectly sealed book of God's plans and purposes.

God is in control of history. As He permits men and women to go their chosen way, war, famine and death are inevitable. Hell itself follows close behind. These are three compelling forces of history.

However, there is another horse and horseman. Revelation 6:2 says, "I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer." This white horse is the good news of Jesus Christ. This horseman shoots gospel arrows into human hearts. The story of Christ is a powerful force for good. Those who follow Christ may not be spared the pains of war, famine or physical death. They will be spared the awful torments of eternal death and hell. The four horsemen of the apocalypse are awesome figures riding through history. Which one do you follow?
