What is it to have the gift of prophesy…the real deal!
Not the junk you see on tv.

The true gift is quiet, unseen, it moves you into the alters where Jesus talks right to the souls in need and answer, their questions answered in the royal first person. It lifts faith and strengthens bonds of love. It never “calles out” to bring humiliation to others and flattering attention to its prophet, but encourages in private. It tears down barriers and drives others, who refuse its word, to lift them in fear. It is the direct reflection of Jesus thru you…His very sight looking thru your eyes. His very voice speaking thru your mouth, His very warm embrace thru your arms. It is fearful and wonderful at the same time. It is always “on” and never fails as long as your flesh stays out of the mix.

No, it is not the junk you see on tv.

But the quite whisper in the ear, the desire to be small and unseen, the vision that almost blind out this world, as they overlap, spiritual and physical simultaneously… The shaking hands, The unwitting reading of others spiritual mail, The fearful knowledge of the final fate of others, now and again. The night sweat dreams, The spiritual demonic assaults that end in clear victory, The glorious "movies" Jesus shows you, The stammering lips that speak as if talking in tongues but yet it is English that is heard, The inevitable doubt that follows the miraculous, “Did I really say That…? Lord, Did I mess up? That was such a hard saying to speak, how much harder was it to hear..?” And yes, finally, The loneliness of being abandoned by all your “friends” and standing alone next to Jesus, leaning on his shoulder weeping, abandoned by all yet alone with Him, seen as a “freak” by all others, save 1 or 2 close friends, others with the gift, and fortunately your pastor.

If you ask for it, you somday may received it and you will have to struggling with it, ever after...

This gift is a heavy responsibility, and a glorious one as well. But it is a lonely one too. It's weight burdens you to tears and yet makes you Fly like the fastest of Eagles... Forever will you be Fearful of speaking out in your flesh, yet you will find yourself divinly “DRIVEN” to speak out, in spite of yourself.

To have the true gift of Prophesy is to stand in the shadow of God Almighty’s Sovereignty! To look up at it and to see it clearly for the fearful immensity that it is, and then to turn and see Jesus smile and chuckle at your awe, as he slugs you in the arm, and says, “Lighten up! This is supposes to be fun too, you know.”

those with the Gift should never be called the the “holy of holies” for those those with the Gift are trully called to be the "servants of those who serve."

So please listen to the Lord Jesus Christ, Messiah come in the flesh, Jesus who is LORD of all. The author and finisher, the beginning and the end. The creator of all things, Jesus my Lord when He says to you, thru one with the gift, "Beware what you pray for, for somday, The Lord may give it to you. and on that day, you will find that the warm 'Jesus box' you live in, will be utterly blown away. For better, much better then worse."

The love of Jesus is a sea far deeper then the distance between galixies. Jump in, The living water is WARM...

You did a great job of putting it into words and are very correct also look into how God spoke to Jonas after the incident at Niniva when He told him "those people dont know their right hand from their left" it was one of the few times I laughed out loud when reading a scripture. God does want us to have "joy" in doing His will on earth.

The gift of prophecy is the gift of teaching. While it is supernatural in that it comes from the Holy Spirit, there is nothing mystical about the experience. It does not lift you above the human race but embroils you with it. It is a great responsibility that necessitates study, prayer and holy living.

I think maybe you mixed your thoughts on this, the gift of prophecy is not the ministry gift of teaching. They are two seperate gifts, the gift of prophecy is a spiritual gift from the Holy Spirit ref. 1Corinthians 12:1-11 and the gift of teaching is a ministry gift given from Jesus ref. Ephesians 4:7-16.

Please check yourself

re-read what you use to teach others with "by the same spirit"....some would teach that are still in need of teaching all the "gifts" come from the same Spirit.

Don't mind being corrected because i am not perfect , but I need to see scripture and you don't show any . If you feel I'm in error than show me with the word of God and don't take it out of context please.

If I have offended you please say so and let's deal with it ok.

I'm sorry you refuse correction as you were told to re read what You placed here as scripture, Hopefully with 3 days to think and pray about it your attitude will change.

Excellent post Newman. It is clear by now that we all understand ANY GIFT is from GOD regardless of what it is, whether it be prophecy or teaching.

Taken from Easton's 1897 Dictionary

Prophecy or prediction, was one of the functions of the prophet. It has been defined as a "miracle of knowledge, a declaration or description or representation of something future, beyond the power of human sagacity to foresee, discern, or conjecture." (See PROPHET ?T0003006.)

The great prediction which runs like a golden thread through the whole contents of the Old Testament is that regarding the coming and work of the Messiah; and the great use of prophecy was to perpetuate faith in his coming, and to prepare the world for that event. But there are many subordinate and intermediate prophecies also which hold an important place in the great chain of events which illustrate the sovereignty and all-wise overruling providence of God.

Then there are many prophecies regarding the Jewish nation, its founder Abraham (Gen. 12:1-3; 13:16; 15:5; 17:2, 4-6, etc.), and his posterity, Isaac and Jacob and their descendants (12:7; 13:14, 15, 17; 15:18-21; Ex. 3:8, 17), which have all been fulfilled. The twenty-eighth chapter of Deuteronomy contains a series of predictions which are even now in the present day being fulfilled. In the writings of the prophets Isaiah (2:18-21), Jeremiah (27:3-7; 29:11-14), Ezekiel (5:12; 8), Daniel (8; 9:26, 27), Hosea (9:17), there are also many prophecies regarding the events which were to befall that people.

There is in like manner a large number of prophecies relating to those nations with which the Jews came into contact, as Tyre (Ezek. 26:3-5, 14-21), Egypt (Ezek. 29:10, 15; 30:6, 12, 13), Ethiopia (Nahum 3:8-10), Nineveh (Nahum 1:10; 2:8-13; 3:17-19), Babylon (Isa. 13:4; Jer. 51:7; Isa. 44:27; Jer. 50:38; 51:36, 39, 57), the land of the Philistines (Jer. 47:4-7; Ezek. 25:15-17; Amos 1:6-8; Zeph. 2:4-7; Zech. 9:5-8), and of the four great monarchies (Dan. 2:39, 40; 7:17-24; 8:9).

But the great body of Old Testament prophecy relates directly to the advent of the Messiah, beginning with Gen. 3:15, the first great promise, and extending in ever-increasing fulness and clearness all through to the very close of the canon. The Messianic prophecies are too numerous to be quoted. "To him gave all the prophets witness." (Comp. Micah 5:2; Hag. 2:6-9; Isa. 7:14; 9:6, 7; 11:1, 2; 53; 60:10, 13; Ps. 16:11; 68:18.)

Many predictions also were delivered by Jesus and his apostles. Those of Christ were very numerous. (Comp. Matt. 10:23:24; 11:23; 19:28; 21:43, 44; 24; 25:31-46; 26:17-35, 46, 64; Mark 9:1; 10:30; 13; 11:1-6, 14; 14:12-31, 42, 62; 16:17, etc.)

Propheteia - The prophetic rank or work, the office or gift of a prophet. In Romans 12:6 is is classed with "diakonia," ministry or serving and "didaskalia," teaching as a charisma, the result of God's grace or divine enablement to be exercised within the Church (1Cor. 12:10; 13:2; 1 Thess. 5:20; 1 Tim 4:14; Rev. 11:6; 19:10)

I didn't know that prophets in the new testament existed until I found My old pastor. I knew by studying the word that Jesus gave gifts unto men, and am a believer of the 5 fold ministry. It was refreshing to see the fruit this prophet was bearing in his life, without the giving himself a title, "Prophet", after all it was not man that gave him the title, but God. A "prophet" as said by this prophet is nothing more than a special messanger to the body of christ, the mouthpiece of God; someone who gives a word straight from God, and or a person that oversees a large body or several churches. Most of the time when you recieve a prophesy it should just be confirming what God had already spoken to you, not something out of the blue that catches you way off guard. It's never ment to tear you down and make you feel bad, but to uplift and encourage you with the word. I was mentored by this prophet, and I can say myself, and my whole family, my friends, and their whole families are much closer to God as a result.

God Bless

Sometimes, even those "gifts" can be deceiving when used out of context. Say, I'm looking at someone's performance of their "gift" such as prophesying, it's still hard to say if I can trust.

"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." - 1 John 4:1

Gifts are from God, yet...skills are developed by people. So, perhaps those false prophecies are skills? Used for the sake of deception?

It's the speaking out of whatever revelation God has put on your heart at that time. It seves to edify, exhort and comfort all members of the church.
Get to a church that uses this gift as detailed in 1 Cor. 14 and you will soon be using it, if you desire to build with them.
