Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and all the people, saying: "The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city with all the words that you have heard. "Now therefore, amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; then the LORD will relent concerning the doom that He has pronounced against you. Jeremiah 26:12-13 NKJV

Jeremiah surely felt the tension between loving his people while also prophesying against their disobedience. He saw how the people had abandoned God and were on the brink of disaster. God’s justice would have its way if they continued on their present course. Yet they were not without hope. If they repented, God would relent and save them from the fate they had chosen.

Even a dire situation like the one God’s people faced because of their disobedience wasn’t beyond hope, and so your own life can also enjoy renewal and a hopeful future if you take God’s justice seriously. If you leave your sinful path behind and begin obeying God, you’ll find an opportunity for mercy that can forever shift the direction of your life. God desires to save you and to lead you to hope and restoration beyond what you can imagine. The first step, though, is to admit where you have gone astray and to turn in a new direction.

Prayer: Guide me in the way of obedience and peace, Lord, so that I can leave the path of sin behind.
