The Gospel/Good News.???

I often post or reply to posts to create or promote discussion.


This is a question that I can't for the life of me find a clear un-super-spiritulised response to. & in simple terms;( that's probably not possible .)

What is 'The Gospel' that a new (& this old) Christian should be sharing.
The great commission is to go & preach the good news to all.

What is it ? How do we express it??
1) Is it our personal testimony.?
2) Just those standard chapters & verses that we are told will do the business.?
3) What ever is of God in us, individualized as good news to each person that you meet with & relate to.?
4)Personalised revelation of what God is doing, has done & will do, that will change them from the inside out.?
5)All the bible as an example of the power, grace & love of God to those He has ''called out.'' ?
6)Are we who are Holy Spirit filled the Gospel to those who don't know Him??
7) Is it the life & teachings of Jesus??
8) Is it just Matthew 28:19-20.?
We are to heal the sick, raise the dead before or after you share.?
?Did the disciples miss doing what they should have done, until Jesus rose from the dead??? Did the old time evanelist ''miss it'' by just sticking to the word as written & not to that written in our hearts??

I remember a time when i was so super spiritual. I felt so close to God.
I was acting super spiritual. I look back at that time and I know the fruit was not all good. I was seen as someone different at times. But was it in a way that would lead people to Jesus Christ?
At times I dont think that I was all that effective in spreading the love and grace and truth of Jesus Christ.

It is so challenging how Jesus lived each day. He had time for the poor, the broken hearted, the tax collector and so on. He explained things in parables so the people could understand what he said. What a attitude Jesus Christ showed, loving people, accepting them and correcting them. Then he had times alone, times with friends and he endured temptations.
The gospels show that he was people oreintated, He didnt just rush over people to get a important goal achieved as we do in our society. He had time for people.
His words for people helped them to correct re adjust the way they lived.
His love and acceptance showed each person how much he valued them. (the thief on the cross and so on)

When I was a young super spiritual christain, I remember these words,

"Dont be so heavenly minded, that you are of no earthly use"

This does help & this is what I believe. We in the Holy Spirit are good news to the lost. Thanks hope other give these comments some thought.

To me "the gospel" is sharing the story of CHRIST with others. Letting others know who JESUS is to you, how HE has changed your life and what HE has done/is doing in your life at this present moment. This is sharing "good news " to those who may have never heard. It might require more detailed explanations, but it will be a good witness for CHRIST. As the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20 states, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even to the end of the world. Amen."

The gospel includes our telling about or identifying with the death, burial, and resurrection of CHRIST...realizing that when HE died, we died to the sinful man and the deeds of the flesh; when we are baptised, we are buried in the watery grave, as JESUS was buried in a borrowed tomb; and as HE arose from the grave, we are raised from the watery grave to walk in "newness of life" by CHRIST JESUS. Baptism does not save a person nor wash his sins away, but it clears our conscience of the "old life" we lived before the blood of CHRIST was appplied to our sin. At salvation, GOD took the red blood of CHRIST, covered man's black heart with it and made the heart whiter than snow.

I would say that the answer to your question is "all of the above". The message is simple and the jist of it can be found in two scripture citations:

John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but shall have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

1 John 1: 9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

The "good news" is the fact that Christ died on the cross for our sins so that we may be forgiven and not spend eternity in hell.

Personally, I like Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron's approach to witnessing when they ask unsaved people, "do you believe you're a good person?" and they go on from there...

Simple enough?

I also like Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron's way of witnessing.. I read the book and I watch the show... let me tell ya at first I was taken back about someof the things they said int he book... it was very meaty... made me really think ya know!

"The Gospel" is the Bible and the Truth of how God sent His only Son to set us free from sin so that we may not perish, but have eternal life abundantly. The Gospel is everything, it's Jesus Christ, it's God The Father, it's the Holy Spirit, the Bible and "The Good News" all wrapped up together.

Preaching or sharing The Gospel is simply sharing with the unsaved, how God can save them and telling them the wonderful things God has done for them without even knowing them personally. Then telling them what God will do and what they need to do for God.

Thanks, and I know there is more to sharing the Gospel and maybe I didn't word the second part too well. I was trying to break it down into a couple of sentences, which is sometimes hard to do...LOL

Dear Friends,
That was a very practical question that used to bug me too. There was a time when I thought that somehow leading a conversation around to sin, salvation and telling someone Jesus died for them was giving the gospel! Now I think that while leading the conversation to Christ is the minimum, if possible, I should do so much more. I need to show my friends the reality of Jesus in my life...when I'm happy, when I'm struggling, when I'm making choices...That means I should let those I'm witnessing to into my life. I call them home, and go to their place. I respond to their needs and rejoice with them when they're happy. I weep with them and pray for them when they're sad. letting them know I'm praying. I tell them something of my own experiences and struggles and am as honest as possible, even telling them of my doubts and fears, but also telling them how God helped me with them. When they see how real Christ is to me and my family, some of them are attracted to him, too, but its often a long process.

When I hear of how quickly people accept Christ in the West, I am sometimes surprised. In Asia, everyone will accept Christ as one of the gods/ gurus...but to move into an exclusive relationship with Him....oh, that takes long.

I'm not much of a messageboarder, but I'll give you my thoughts.

Paul is clear in his discussion of the "gospel" in Romans 1:1-17. Paul discusses his obligation to share the gospel with both "greeks and non-greeks, wise and foolish".

Romans 1:14-15 - I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome. (NIV)

I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. (KJV)



From what I understand from Paul, the gospel is the power by which God gives salvation. In other words (and like many have already said), it's the story of Jesus' victory over sin and death with the resurrection.

However, it doesn't end there. It also includes the knowledge that we cannot do anything to earn the righteousness of God. We must believe, confess by mouth, and act in faith through Jesus Christ the savior. What a blessing his grace is and how unworthy are we!
