Then I will live among the people of Israel and be their God, and they will know that I am the LORD their God. I am the one who brought them out of the land of Egypt so that I could live among them. I am the LORD their God. Exodus 29:45-46 NLT
Before the Israelites could truly trust the Lord, He made Himself at home among the former slaves. They’d been ordered around and belittled, and then the Great King lived among them. Their past circumstances made it hard to believe a present reality. They had lived with dashed hopes and disappointed dreams for so long that it was difficult for them to believe that God really cared about them.
God provided food and they hoarded what He freely provided. It seemed they weren’t convinced he would bring the food trucks of heaven back daily—but He kept providing. He tried breaking their habit of viewing everything from the lens of slavery. It remained an ever-present stumbling block.
Your mom or dad once made promises that you chose to believe or disbelieve. Maybe they proved trustworthy and found it easy to trust them. Maybe not. But God has never been untrustworthy. He always keeps His promises, and that’s why it just makes good sense to trust Him.
Prayer: Every man has been in bondage at least once in life, God. Give me a willingness to believe enough so I can believe more. To trust enough to see You move. To have faith enough to witness You—moving mountains.
