I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that you shall weep and grieve, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. John 16:20 AMPC

John 16:20 says that you will suffer sadness, but it also says that the world will rejoice. What? Is this verse really saying that people will make fun of you? Yes. The things that cause you sorrow may convince people to kick you while you’re down. This too is common isn’t it?

How is it possible to come back from universal ridicule? You can take heart in knowing something that those who make fun of you overlook. God is good, loves you, and what He thinks is all that should matter to you.

People might respond to your pain with what they don’t know. They will make assumptions and draw conclusions that are far from accurate. When they toss their ridicule like a vial of acid, it may leave you wondering why. On the other hand, God knows you and deals with you with compassion, mercy, and grace. The sorrow you suffer at the hands of others can turn to joy when you determine that God’s thoughts about you count more. They always have.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, what others think of me can be faulty or downright wrong, but You know and love me perfectly. Give me the wisdom to know the difference and then discover encouragement.
