Joash was seven years old when he became king. 2 Kings 11:21 NLT
Most seven-year-olds are getting used to the idea of school and playing outside with their friends. One day, they will look back at this time in life as one when they didn’t pay taxes and didn’t need a job. They were free to be kids.
Joash didn’t have this experience. Through a series of national events, he became king of Judah. What may be important to remember is that if a seven-year-old is to be king and lead the people in a godly direction then he might face the steep learning curve of depending on the God who is wise enough, strong enough, and patient enough to encourage a young boy to be a good king.
You won’t always get to choose when you reach certain milestones in life. They could come later—or sooner. They can be small mile-stones that test your faithfulness or big life events that help you witness God’s faithfulness. There’s no such thing as ageism with God. He welcomed children and encouraged those more mature. God is still working on you, and He’s not finished.
Prayer: Lord, let me talk with You; help me to listen. Teach what I need to learn. I want to be the right kind of student—and the right kind of son.
