For several years now, the debate of removing the Ten Commandments from all government buildings has stirred up people on both sides.
Many have sacrificed greatly to plead their cause. There's no doubt that the Ten Commandments have been a great influence on our society for more than two centuries, here in the United States of America. Should they be taken down or should they remain is something that I think will always be in question.
Talking with many christians on this subject, I have found that almost all of the christians would like them to remain. In a recent discussion, several of those involved reported that they had been grieved in their spirits over the removal of the Commandments from government buildings and said it was an attack against God Himself. Here is where I had to disagree. By His own design, God has made known the Place He wants to see the Ten commandments displayed and it's not in a government building, saints. Rather It would please Him greatly to see them written on our hearts.
Hebrews 10:15-18
15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
I also believe we will be a lot more effective for God's kingdom by having His commands written on our hearts, and this way a person will not have to visit a government building to be confronted with the morals contained in the Ten Commandments. All they have to do is cross the path of a christian in public and God's Commandments will be conveyed automatically, because out of the heart the mouth speaks.
Matthew 12:34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
So, of this battle of where the Ten Commandments are constitutionally prohibited or allowed, should be left to those who don't care if God is pleased. And for all of us who desire to please Him, let us yield our hearts to the penmanship of the Holy Spirit and become a public display of God's Commands.
