Brethren, do you really believe your loved ones that have died in Jesus are literally in graves in a casket?
That's a doctrine which many in Old Testament times had, prior to Apostle Paul explaining what kind of body the resurrection is, and prior to his revealing in 2 Cor.5 that to be absent from the body is to be present with Christ.
Take heed of what Apostle Paul said about what the resurrection is, and with what kind of body it is...
1 Cor.15
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
Have you ever stopped to think about what that "It" is there that is sown in dishonour, in corruption, and a natural body? Actually God through His servant Solomon first gave us a bit of detail on that, in Ecclesiastes 12:5-7 that when our flesh body dies it goes back to the earth where it came from, and our spirit goes back to God Who gave it. Solomon even gave a hint about the idea of a "silver cord" that keeps the flesh body and spirit attached to each other while alive on earth.
In 2 Corinthians 5 Apostle Paul gave us another detail view about the body of our flesh vs. another type of body that we have involving our spirit...
2 Cor.5
1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
What body is that "earthy house" that could be "dissolved" that Paul speaks of? That's about our flesh body. But what body is that other one, "an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens"? That sounds like the "spiritual body" idea Paul taught about in 1 Cor.15, doesn't it? It is about the "spiritual body".
Notice that 2 Cor.5:1 verse says "we have" in the present tense, like right now, only that it is not yet manifested while we are alive in our flesh body on earth. In 1 Cor.15:44 when Paul says, "There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body," that's in the same tense as 2 Cor.5:1. The Eccl.12:5-7 Scripture shows us the same thing, that while alive on earth, our flesh body is tied to our spirit by the "silver cord" that Solomon mentioned. When that "silver cord" is separated at flesh death, then our flesh body goes back to the earthy elements where it came from, but our spirit goes back to God Who gave it. Solomon made no distinction between God's servants and all men about that.
Did you know our Lord Jesus in Luke 16 even gave an example of that Eccl.12:5-7 operation after flesh death? In the story of Lazarus and the rich man, both men died. Lazarus was taken to one side of paradise to Abraham's bosom, but the rich man was taken to hell. Between the two, Abraham said there was a great fixed gulf between the two sides, so that neither could cross.
1 Cor.15
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
47 The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
Therefore, like Paul says in 1 Cor.15, the first man Adam was made a living soul, which is pointing to our spirit with soul made alive within an "earthly house" or tabernacle (dwelling). But the last Adam, pointing to our Lord Jesus and resurrection, was made a quickening spirit.
So, is a "quickening spirit" the same thing as a flesh body? No, as Paul also reveals there the difference between the "image of the earthy" we have borne, and that we shall also bear the "image of the heavenly". All men have borne the "image of the earthy", so do you think all men will bear the "image of the heavenly"? Yes, as there is a "resurrection of damnation" also for the wicked (John 5:28-29). And remember, Paul revealed there the type of body the resurrection will come with is the "spiritual body", not another new flesh body, but a body similar to our Lord's that will not die, won't get sick, won't feel hot or cold, nor pain.
The difference with the type of spiritual body those of the "resurrection of damnation" will have is that their spiritual body with soul will STILL... be subject perish in the "lake of fire" at the end of Christ's thousand years reign, and that is called the "second death" in Rev.20.
So brethren in Christ Jesus, do not fear those who can only kill our flesh body, and not our spirit/soul, like our Lord Jesus said. Like Paul said, even if our "earthly house" were "dissolved" with no material parts left, we still have a building of God, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
