The word "resurrection" appears in the New Testament over 40 times. It is a core doctrine of mainstream Christianity.
1Cor 15:14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.
1Cor 15:15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.
1Cor 15:16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;
1Cor 15:17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
1Cor 15:18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
1Cor 15:19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.
If the dead are not raised, then even Jesus was not raised. If Jesus was never raised from the dead, then the entire Christin faith is worthless.
Everyone who ever died is just simply dead, and if you had hope in Jesus for this life only, then you are to be pitied.
The timing of this is often debated, some believe you immediately go to heaven without a body, others believe you will be resurrected
with a new body when the trumpet sounds. But I don't really want to debate the timing of it, but rather that the resurrection WILL happen.
Eccl 9:5 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.
Perhaps this verse simply means they are temporarily dead, and don't know anything while they are dead.
In John 6, Jesus says He will raised up people four times. When does this happen? On the "last day".
John 6:39 "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.
John 6:40 "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day."
John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
John 6:54 "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
Both the righteous and the wicked will be resurrected. However, their final destinations will be different.
John 5:28; "Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,
John 5:29; and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
Acts 24:15 having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.
However these two resurrections will be about a thousand years apart.
Rev 20:5; This is the first resurrection. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
The entire Christian faith is built on the premise of eternal life.
Matt 25:46; "These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
The phrase "eternal life" is also mentioned over 40 times in the New Testament.
If you don't believe in eternal life, and the resurrection, why even be a Christian? If there is nothing after this life, then why even bother?
Rev 20:5; The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.
The dead will come back to life. They will be raised out of the tombs. Once you are resurrected, you cannot die anymore.
Luke 20:36 for they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
