The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. Lamentations 3:25
There is a reason these words are found in the Book of Sadness. Jeremiah mourned the results of his people's sin. The book of Lamentations finds Jeremiah asking for God's mercy in the midst of sin's consequences. In every era, mankind has sinned. In every era, mankind has struggled with trusting their nations' leaders.
In today's world, there's opportunity to choose leaders based on the right to vote. Still, a book of lamentations could be written about current events. It's been suggested that unless God steps in, mankind can't survive. But listen to what Jeremiah says. In the middle of his saddest thoughts, he remembered something. In his remembering, Jeremiah provided encouragement: "The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him."
Even on Election Day, your trust should rest with God and not what promises the candidates make. No matter the outcome of any election, you serve a God who is absolutely trustworthy. Yes, vote for candidates that share your values, but never lose your trust in God, no matter what the outcome of an election.
Prayer: Lord, help me to remember that I'm rescued by Your love and forgiveness. Help me to trust that Your plans are more important than any election. Help me to be grateful for the right to vote, but may I always trust You.
