You just read one more bit of wisdom from the sons of Korah on this extra day of the year. These men were inviting God to join them in their struggle. They weren’t asking Him to just give them strength in the struggle (although it is wise to ask for that). No, these men were asking God to show up with might, power, and glory. They needed Him to step in and take charge of something they knew they could not handle on their own.
These men were giving God permission to take their mess and redeem their shortcomings. They needed to learn more from God, but they first needed to be rescued. They needed to follow God, but they first needed to find a place of refuge. They were in deep trouble and needed to remember who made the rescue plan possible.
You face the same real and present battle every day. You might be quicker to ask for help or you might wait until it seems too late. Of course, those are choices you can make, but only one is truly helpful.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for giving me an extra day this year. Help me use it to place my chaos under Your control. Give me the peace that comes with knowing that You are in control of everything.
