The Truth About Mediums - July 22, 2006
"The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so." Deuteronomy 18:14
A few weeks after my brother died, I was informed by a family member that a relative had gone to see a "medium." A medium is a person who claims to call upon the spirits of the dead, and to see into the future. Upon expressing my disapproval over this negative occult practice, I was told, "Oh, it's just for fun! It can't hurt just to listen."
My friends, there is nothing funny about disobeying God.
In the Bible we are clearly told, "Do not practice divination or sorcery." (Leviticus 20:6)
We are also told, "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God" (Deuteronomy 18:10-13)
It CAN hurt even "just to listen" because the Bible tells us that we will be defiled by affiliating with such persons.
"Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God." (Leviticus 19:31)
Most mediums claim that their ability to predict the future or talk with the dead is a gift from God. What makes no sense is that, if this was a Divine gift, then why would God tell us He would basically turn His back on those who involve themselves with this aspect of the occult?
"I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people." ( Leviticus 20:6)
Some people who have visited such "psychics" insist that the medium told them things no one else could possibly know. My friends, do not be deceived for the Bible also cautions us that there will be deceiving spirits in the latter days.
"The Spirit clearly says that in later times, some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons." (1 Timothy 4:1)
"They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty." Revelation 16:14
Some people may involve themselves in things which are an abomination to God because they do not know what God requires of His children.
If you are or have been involved in any aspect of the negative occult, God is willing and able to offer His mercy and grace to those who call upon Him in sincere repentance.
Know God, and know His truth.
