As I neared death, seemingly, in early 2002 from my cerebral bleed, the feeling that I had was that I was not to live much longer. My doctor said the same thing so I wasn't alone in what I thought.
My wife was leading the effort to pray for my recovery, and she and one daughter were now into religious healing. As I got worse my wife's friend at work began making plans for a wake for me. Of course, this is for after a person's death. The lady was Roman Catholic, I think, and we are Protestant, but we Protestants often have something similar for a deceased person's family also, so I understood.
Wife asked whole Protestant churches to pray for my recovery and she marched our two children into the hospital and they laid hands on me and prayed for Jesus to heal me...no matter what the hospital staff thought about that. Also a group of Roman Catholic "charismatic renewal" members prayed for me as well as many other Christian believers. I needed all the prayers I could get.
When in time I improved, and later got home from the hospital, wife joked with me about that wake and how my recovery had messed up all their plans. I told her that there was going to now be quite a wait for that wake, and I also laughed. But at that point really there was no solid reason to suppose that I would live through the year. But it happened.
My most sincere thanks to all that prayed for me and most of all to the wonderful Lord, and his Son, and the Holy Spirit. It has now been more than 13 years and I am still kicking, and I write this for the Lord to express somewhat my gratitude. It can happen for you too, and if you need it I hope it happens!!!
