He will listen to the prayers of the destitute. He will not reject their pleas. Psalm 102:17 NLT

To be destitute means to be penniless, bankrupt, and without support. The psalmist is clear that the prayers of those in need are prayers that God hears. You can be certain God hears all prayers, but the emphasis here is that the prayers of the destitute are important to Him.

If you are becoming a new creation, if God is changing your thinking, and if you are serious about paying attention to the things God is passionate about, then you may be used by God to help transform the circumstances of the bankrupt.

You’ve read enough in this book to see that God changes people, circumstances, and lives. You’re wrong to look at a need and assume someone else will take care of it (James 2:16). Why spend time becoming a new creation if you insist on acting like an old one?

One of the best reasons to help others is that more than once in your life you needed help—and God sent it—often through a willing person.

Prayer: Dear God, may I never withhold Your love when it’s within my power to share it. May I never accept Your grace and refuse to reflect it. May I never receive forgiveness and then refuse to forgive others. May I always be pleased to be Your answer to the prayer of someone in need.
