Ephesians 6:10-13 NKJV

“10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

Putting It On

The whole armor of God listed for us in Ephesians 6:14-20 includes truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer. So, if we are to put on (wear it, own it, apply it, practice it) all of it, no parts left out, we need to include ALL of it in what we believe, and in what we practice, and in how we live, and in the things that we do and say. All of this needs to be lived out in our lives daily, seven days a week. This is not a “Sunday only” kind of thing while the rest of the time belongs to us.

We who are of faith in Jesus Christ are to worship our Lord in spirit and in truth EVERY day. And worship of our Lord is not in singing songs only. True worship of God is in surrendering our lives to him as our LORD (Owner-Master), and by faith in him denying self, dying to sin, and following him in obedience to his commands. True worship of our Lord involves us giving up our selfish desires and now living to please God in all we are and do and say, all for the glory of God. For we can sing much and still never worship God.

The Gospel of Truth

In putting on the whole armor of God, with regard to the gospel of our salvation, we are to put it ALL on, not just parts of it, not just the parts that we like and that make us feel good, but including the parts which confront us with our sin, and which call us to repentance, and which command that we obey God in practice, and that sin no longer be what we practice. And that includes God’s warnings to us that if sin is what we practice, and not obedience to God, that we will not have salvation and eternal life with God.

See [Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 9:23-26; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 6:1-23; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 5:3-6; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:1-6]

And if truth is what we are putting on, then we need to be those who are studying the Scriptures for ourselves in the correct biblical context, for lies and liars abound everywhere we look, including in and especially within the gatherings of “the institutional church,” and in our government, and in the media, too. For Jesus did not teach that if we profess him with our lips only that we have eternal life in him. He said to come after him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die to sin daily) and follow him in obedience.

Faith in Christ

And faith in Jesus is not in lip service only, and it is not something we create in our own minds to go our own way. Faith, which comes from God, and which is authored and perfected by Jesus Christ, and which is gifted to us by God, and which is persuaded of God, is of the will and purpose of God. None of it is of our own doing, of our own fleshly works. And God persuades us as to his righteousness and holiness, and of our sinfulness, and of our need to deny self, die to sin, and follow him in obedience, for it to be genuine faith.

[Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 1:12-13; John 6:44; Acts 26:18; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Hebrews 12:1-2; Titus 2:11-14; 1 Peter 2:24]

For God’s grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for Jesus’ return. For it is not the one who claims he is “in Christ” who is “in Christ,” but it is the one who has denied self, died with Christ to sin, and who is now walking in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in practice, and no longer in sin. We have the hope and the promise of eternal life with God in heaven (see Titus 2:11-14; 1 John 1-3).

Be strong in the grace of Christ, and
Put on His full armor in your fight
Against the enemy of your souls,
And resist him with all your might.
Take up the shield of your faith within you.
Salvation’s helmet – you put it on.
Put on the belt of truth,
And walk in the Spirit,
And you’ll not be ashamed.
Love your Lord Jesus; call His Name.

Call on your Lord and Savior, Jesus, and
Make Him Lord and King of your hearts.
Obey all of His teachings He has given
To you to follow in all His ways.
Repent of your sins. Return to your God.
Follow Him where’er He leads you now.
Humble yourselves in full
Surrender to His will
For your lives today.
Bow before Him, and humbly pray.

Be strong in the grace of Christ, and
Obey your Lord in ev’rything, always
Keeping His teachings in your hearts near you.
Walk with Christ in ev’ry way.
Resist the devil. He will flee from you.
Draw near to God, and He’ll be near you.
Wash your hands you sinners
And double minded.
Weep and wail o’er sin.
With Christ, your new lives begin.
