I know knowing Christ means one has to know and remember a few things, but eventually you learn to love Him by getting to know Him.

I've learnt that one should try to ignore your emotions when it come to your faith...is that quite true?

Welcome to the site LovingHim.
Yes, concerning Christ you do have to know that He died and rose again so that we may have eternal life. And we do have to study and meditate on God's Holy word, the bible. And you're right again, the more we learn about Him and His character by reading His word and spending time with Him and prayer, and also by experiencing His active participation on our lives, the more we grow to love Him. I have read though of some people, and I feel they are very blessed, who experience a radical, almost explosive conversion right from the start. Wow. But I fall under the category of I am slowly getting to know Him and understand Him.
Yes, also we are to ignore our emotions. God is a God of faith. We must trust Him when we are feeling fear and worry and such, for we walk by faith not by sight. But He also doesn't want us to be robots either. Some emotions are good. He created them to give us pleasure. I think it's just the ones we experience that make us doubt God and His love for us are the ones we are to ignore.

How long have you been saved ? And welcome again.

Hi, CallOnHim,

Long ago and every day when I decide to trust Him and when He shows me that He's there I find new meaning and new life.

I rely on Him to reveal Himself and He does. He's free and I respect that. Somehow to be intimate with Him doesn't mean I have all the "answers", but still I feel safe.

I'm 39 and realised I was saved at about 20. That was a wonderful day.

How about you?

I agree,to chase them seems to make them flee.
If we walk in love and the joy of the Lord then those emotions will eventually be experienced.
They may get spooked away by events but they will come back to stay with their own kind.

Oh my gosh, I just realized that I called you LovingHim, when your user name is LoveHim. Please forgive me. *blushes* lol.

I have believed in Jesus ever since I can remember. As a very young child. Perhaps around 6 or so. So guess you can say I have always been saved.

Downside to this is when you have had something for so long, that sometimes you can take it for granted. I will not lie to you and say that there have been times in my life when I totally forgot about God. But then He gently nudges me and gets my attention again. LOL

Glad you came to know Him, and glad you are here as well.

South Africa sounds hot. How hot does it get ?
