“How long will all of you attack a man
to batter him,
like a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
They only plan to thrust him down from his high position.
They take pleasure in falsehood.
They bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse. Selah
“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah” (Psalms 62:3-8 ESV)
In our world today we have many people attacking Jesus Christ and his gospel message. And they may be those who profess faith in the Lord Jesus. And many of them may be pastors of “churches,” and those who purportedly are preachers of the gospel. They are not against the “Jesus” the world has created, and that they have created in their own minds, in their own image, but they are not in support of the Jesus of the Bible, in whole, in the completeness of who he is and of what he requires of his followers.
So by attacking his messengers, and by diluting and altering his gospel message, and by cutting out portions of Scripture deliberately with the purpose to deceive and to mislead, they are, in essence, “thrusting him down from his high position.” For they take pleasure in falsehood. And even if they profess with their lips to be children of God and servants of the Lord, or just believers in Christ, he is not Lord of their lives. Their hearts are not surrendered to him to do his will, for they are still doing their own will.
So they don’t take the Lord or his word seriously. They make loose confessions of faith in Jesus Christ, but this is not followed up by dying with him to sin and walking no longer according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. They presume upon God that their profession of faith is enough to secure them forgiveness of all sins, and heaven as their eternal destiny, but regardless of how they live. So they “worship” a man-created Jesus in their own image, and they thrust down the true Jesus from his high position.
But their treatment of Jesus Christ, and their man-created beliefs about him, and about his gospel, not only impact them and their own personal lives, but their treatment of the biblical Jesus Christ, and their beliefs about him, are being passed along to others who they are influencing by their own words, and by their own actions (practices). And many people who are going over to their side are then reproducing the immature and the self-indulgent who give lip service to the Lord but who by their actions deny him.
But if our faith in Jesus Christ is genuine biblical faith in him, we should have died with him to sin and been raised with him to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin, but now as slaves to God and to his righteousness. Thus, we are no longer to let sin reign in our mortal bodies, to make us obey its passions. For if sin is what we obey, it leads to death. But if obedience to our Lord is what we obey, it leads to righteousness and to sanctification, and its end is eternal life with Christ Jesus, our Lord.
For the whole purpose of Jesus’ death on that cross was to buy us back for God (to redeem us) out of our lives of slavery (addiction) to sin, and to give us new lives in Christ Jesus, led by the Spirit, so that we now walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, and that we now follow him and his ways, in whatever way that he leads us, according to his word. Our lives are now to be surrendered to the Lord to do his will, and no longer still held captive by the sinful desires of the flesh. Then our hope is truly in Him.

As the Deer
By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
