Timing

- June 10, 2005

Sometimes I think I need my own time zone: Pacific Time, Mountain Time, Central Time, Eastern Time, and Revised Rhonda Time. I usually need at least an hour more than I've got for whatever I'm supposed to be doing.

It doesn't help that I'm frequently at least a season or two off. Right now we're into summer and I'm writing Christmas devotions. Picture me singing carols in my Santa hat, cranking the thermostat down a few notches and trying to be holly/jolly just before going out to water my flowers. When my kids catch me doing yard work in shorts and a Santa hat, they worry that the hat might have already disturbed some of the blood flow to the brain.

Here's a surprise: so far, I'm on time today. I think it's caused a little ripple in the space/time continuum. Anyone feeling a disturbance in the force?

Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us that in the big picture, right timing is God's timing. "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven." (The Message) We're told in verse 11 that "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end." (The Message)

Our finite brains have a tough time wrapping themselves around what God is doing from the beginning of time to the end, even when we're not wearing hats that disturb the blood flow. But this I do know: at the right time, God provided a way for our hearts to be clean. He provided a way for us to be able to spend eternity with him. Galatians 4:3-5 says, "And that's the way it was with us before Christ came. We were slaves to the spiritual powers of this world. But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children." (New Living Translation) How glorious that the Father chose to provide salvation at just the right time. According to verses 6 and 7 of that passage, "God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, and now you can call God your dear Father. Now you are no longer a slave but God's own child." (NLT) The Spirit of Jesus, right here in our hearts! He is the Real Force!

Pondering His love and salvation revolutionizes our thinking. It changes the way we think about our time and changes the way we use it. Hmm... Revising Revised Rhonda Time? Yes, I have time for that!
