To God Be The Glory - Message #399 - October 02, 2005
A popular old gospel hymn begins like this. "To God be the glory, great things He has done. So loved He the world, He gave us His Son. Who yielded His life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that we may go in." God should have the glory. This means He should be the real heavyweight in our lives. We should pay attention to Him. Listen to how the Bible puts it. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ" (Ephesians 1:3). We have tremendous blessings from God through Jesus Christ.
To bless means to speak well of someone. When God speaks well of us, He pronounces us forgiven. We have the ultimate blessing. This is a spiritual blessing because it has to do with cleansing our hearts, souls and spirits from the heavy burden of guilt from sin. His is a heavenly blessing because it does not come from earth.
You cannot purchase peace of heart. You cannot earn rest for your soul. It only comes from heaven through Christ. Jesus said, "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Are you weary? Do you need rest for your soul? You need the spiritual blessing from God which comes through Jesus Christ.
