"You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of complete rest, an official day for holy assembly. It is the LORD's Sabbath day, and it must be observed wherever you live. Leviticus 23:3 NLT
Why did God command His people to set aside a specific day for rest? Most importantly, what do you think God could do in your life with one day set aside for rest?
Think about all the ways that your calendar fills up. You surely have plenty of obligations that may include work, caring for a family member, helping your kids with homework, or the chores and projects that pile up around the house. The question, “Why a Sabbath?” suddenly becomes, “Who has time for a Sabbath?”
The striking nature of God commanding His people to rest may have a message for you today. What are you missing from God that could come from a weekly Sabbath? Perhaps the message of a Sabbath is to place greater faith in God right now. Then again, this may be an opportunity to rely on others in your faith community. Regardless, the Sabbath is your chance to receive a blessing from God today.
Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to the ways I can observe the blessing of Your Sabbath in faith. May I turn my worries and fears over to You and fully enjoy the rest You offer Your people.
