What does a great leader look like? At times people may think of the person who draws the attention of others when she walks in the room, the athlete who guides a team to a championship, or the confident CEO who takes charge of a meeting. In the eyes of Jesus, the greatest leader among His followers will be the one who understands service. Those who sacrifice themselves for the sake of others will be the one who have understood the message of Jesus best and follow His example of leadership.
If you don’t aspire to be a leader, that doesn’t leave you off the hook to serve others. The model of Jesus’ life is one of self-sacrifice and service. The purpose of Jesus’ life revolved around giving His life as a ransom to serve others, and so the challenge of Jesus is to ask how you can make sacrifices for the sake of others and yield your desires to God.
Prayer: Jesus, You led the way by giving up Your life for others. Help me to let go of my own desires so that I can serve others freely.
