My dearest Brethren,

Since the republic of Congo became independent we are confronted with the main matter or problem of tribalism. From the first president until now we're living and struggling with facing tribalism. And, especially the war is opposing the people from teh North and those from the South. And what we're living now here in our country is theresult of what we are resposible for. We've got to get out from trisbalism. Personnally I don't appreciate the way the Church is not getting involved into promoting peace and war against tribalism.

Please pray for our country so that we be a real nation and more than being a stat only.

As a teacher I am, our school system is not good and when teaching we dont choose pupils from where we're from. In the contrary we teach all pupils from the whole congo whaterver they be from the North or the South. Politicians are not concerned since getting the power is the main for them. Otherwise they had to promote the fight against tribalism through education.

Christ Jesus came and gave His life for everyone who accepts Him as one's saviour and Lord. He also died so that whoever belived in Him in Congo gets everlasting life. There are lots of Christians in Congoso the country is to be His. Unfortunately, our country is arked with armed conflicts. In 1992-1993 a civil war started after the president dismissed all members of the Parliament because he hadn't the majority. Then we entered ina conflict opposing people from the South amongst themselves; and the worse was that in some places babies were pounded. And, unfortunately that painfuland sad event was reminded in some public notices during the compaign for the presidency of the republic, and alerting the people about the danger to return to it in case they will vote for an opponent. The compaign was quiet, but the atmlosphere wasn't good since all opponents weren't allowed to do compaighn throughout the whole country.

Some people was saying that they can't leave the power to an opponent and one of them betrayed them because he joined the opposition. How can we rebuild our country when living into tribalism?

The Holy Bible says:

"For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!" - Romans 5:10 NIV.

"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
- 2 Chronicles 7:14, New International Version - UK (NIVUK) -

When we need recruitment, recruiters demand money in exchange and even for teachers we are so that our file be quickly taken in consideration. And the qorse is that you can't be recruited if you're not from a common department or corner (territory) or ethny in Congo. This behaviour won the majority of people while Congo is known to be christianized in its majority. Congolese people lack True Love. And even though The Holy Bible says again:

"4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away"

-1 Corinthians 13:4-8, New International Version - UK (NIVUK)-

And:

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."

-Matthew 5:7-9, New International Version - UK (NIVUK)-
We need to change our mind so that we see and experience GOD's Will daily into serving Jesus Christ truly. And without forgiveness we never can live neither experience reconciliation. And, about forgiveness the Holy Bibles says the following:

Sin, faith, duty
1Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.
2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied round their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.
3 So watch yourselves.
‘If your brother or sistera]">[a] sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.
4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying “I repent,” you must forgive them.’

-Luke 17:1-4, New International Version - UK (NIVUK)-

We should be able and available to forgive and accept others as they are and pray for all those who don't know Christ Jesus yet because:

"22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law"
-Galatians 5:22-23, New International Version - UK (NIVUK)-

THANKS FOR KEEPING ON PRAYING FOR ALL CHRISTIANS IN CONGO AND SHALOM TO YOU!!!

Before I can respond intelligently I need to know what "tribalism" is exactly. Would it be like the various "gangs" that are in our Country? One gang is always at war with another rival gang?

I would like to pray for your situation as a teacher, how should I pray?

I would be glad to pray for you, but God loves giving choice to the people of this world, even when those choices are bad. I pray that God would give courage to those who can make a difference for the better.

Hello Chooper and thanks a lot for your response. I am going to write you privately. tribalism is different from what you asked me. Tribalism means the preference for a tribe to another or others. One's tribe is considered to be higher than all others. And here in Africa and in my home and native country I mean the republic of Congo people vote according to the tribe they belong to. Ethnic belongings also refer to the language people speak commonly or their mother tongue.

Shalom!!!

I couldn't start a conversation with you. However you can browse the forum and search for thetopics I posted in the forum so that you know deeply how you should pray for me.

GOD's Blessings to you and your whole family!!!

Matthew 10:40-42 (NIV)
40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

Romans 15:1-2 (NIVUK)

15 "We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
2 Each of us should please our neighbours for their good, to build them up."

We need to change our mind so that we see and experience GOD's Will daily into serving Jesus Christ truly. And without forgiveness we never can live neither experience reconciliation.

My prayers are with you my Brother in Christ Jesus and with all of God's people in the Congo. I would also pray for those who do not know Him yet.

The similarities can be made from many different countries of the issues your country faces with "tribalism". There are many countries that have castes systems which is almost impossible for one to move away from.

You are right that only through Christ Jesus can any of this "tribalism" be sent to the dust of history. It is for this very reason that it will require a Man of God; Anointed of God; for such to happen. Why? Because what did the Lord say about enemies

"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;" Matthew 5:44

Tribalism places itself above God Himself so unless their focus is upon Him and not self. The battle is most difficult. Doubly so because the enemy is entrenched in the hearts and minds of those who do not believe. This makes them put their faith in the "tribe" instead of on who it should be. Jesus! Only a Child of the Most High understands the words when our Lord said

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes [shall be] they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Matthew 10:34-37

Unless those who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior lead those who hold to false traditions of allegiance which might have been necessary at one time to survive, but with the coming of Jesus are no longer needed. Until they change to the Christ. Enduring change cannot not happen!

That is why my prayer for your country my brother as it is for my own is for revival:

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

So as you have rightly seen the division within the Body of Christ in the Congo must end first through the Blood of Christ before righting anything else. The story of Nineveh comes to mind:

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. 6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered [him] with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused [it] to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that [is] in their hands. 9 Who can tell [if] God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? 10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did [it] not. Jonah 3:5-10

Yet, even greater is possible for you and your country my brother. Just as I hope and pray for my own. For we have the Holy Spirit power to be heard and who but the Lord Himself as intercessor for our prayers. Let many prayers go heavenward. Prayers with our supplications that our Nations may be beacons of light guided by His Spirit in joy, instead of nations of darkness and despair.

However, no matter the outcome. Let us always be faithful in the knowledge of our Everlasting Hope Jesus Christ, which has bonded us as Brothers in Jesus Christ, and made us Citizens of the Kingdom of God! In the name of Jesus Christ I pray for these Nations my God. Amen.
Praying.

I think we have, at least, a form of tribalism in the US. I don't know what it is like to live in the Congo, scarey from what I've seen in movies. I am sorry for my limited knowledge. I see people like @Alive4Jesus as being on the front-lines. Of course we have people here in the US on the front-lines as well. I see a similarity of tribalism in our "too many" denominations, imo, too many. I can always be wrong in what I say, unless it's God speaking through me, but I am still human, and my will, my ego get's in the way at times.

As here, and in all the world, not all will hear, and obey. I can pray that your christians are given all the strength, and go in grace and truth to spread the Word of God. While I'm at it, I'll include the US and the rest of the world in that prayer. Thank you for sharing.
