"Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.".... and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. (Rev.21:9-11).
I think the city is described "as a bride" because the city is inhabited by Christ's bride, the Church, as it correlates with this passage:
Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
When we speak of a "city" we are not talking about buildings but about the people : a group of people who will live in the buildings. The Lord will not be married to buildings (New Jerusalem) but to the church.
Eph.5:28So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
We are the Bride of Jesus Chirst.
The Jewish people who will believe on Him during the tribulation will be married to God our Father.
The Bride of Christ is all believers of Jesus, I think? so then those before Jesus time could not be the bride of Christ? any one care to shed more light on this theory??
